Departure
At the start, the Iridium GPRS mixed beacons will send a position every second and once offshore they will automatically connect to the Iridium network to transmit a position every 15 minutes. This frequency is managed by the race directors who can change it at any time.
Batteries
The batteries are very generously sized and allow sending a position every 15 minutes for more than a month. Iridium GPRS beacons can also record a track every second on particular passages when they are outside the GPRS zone and as soon as they connect to GPRS they will automatically send all the points recorded on the server.
